I see a possible problem. Seeing how this is a magic heavy list... What about the Ogre's Hellheart that can cause every caster within 30 inches to miscast? Not much fun for the opposing player when a majority of his casters explodes on one turn.

Or, it can affect 0 casters within 5".

Miscasts aren't that bad anymore, either.

Storm Miscasts are, though. Double the fun when you miscast on a fulcrum.

Yes, it will scale up well, but it's going to stand, for a couple of reasons:

  • Casters on Fulcra have 3+ Ward Saves and can't really be in B2B with friendly models. That goes a long, long way towards mitigating the effects of a miscast.
  • Arcane Fulcrum miscasts are... very strange. Two effect's are just flat out bad (2d6 S 10 Hits on all nearby units, enemy wizard gets a free casting effect) and the rest are just bizarre: randomly shuffling fulcra and wizards around the table is a major theme of the table. In most cases, an enemy Miscast on a Fulcum is fairly likely to screw you up, too.
  • Casters are there to camp on Fulcra, which can't be but so close together (initially, at least).
  • I'd rather not have to legislate every potential item in the game. It's expensive and not that broken (look to Blade of the Last Resort or The Great Leveller for perspective).

To be clear...you have win/lose/tie with the points 4/2/0....does this mean that I should be playing to lose if I can't win, since I'll get 2 more points than a tie?

I saw this, and then forgot to respond to it. I've corrected the rules. 4/0/2 Win/Lose/Tie

Sure, I'm game. No idea what I'll play. Possibly Chaos Dwarves, possibly orcs. Nice chance to break out the zoat model.

Scoring:

Battle Points
Each game will be scored:
[list]4/0/2 - Win / Lose / Tie
+1 point for each Arcane Fulcrum controlled at the end of the game
+1 point for each Arcane Fulcrum you controlled at any point in the game
+1 point if you achieved Dominance at any point in the game
+1 point if your opponent never achieved Dominance at any point in the game
+1 point if you successfully cast an Equilibrium or Dominance-level spell or succesfully strike all three Ancestor Runes at least once during the game
+½ point for each Arcane Fulcrum Miscast you suffer (to a maximum of 6 points)
+½ point for each fully painted Arcane Fulcrum you brought to the tournament

I wonder about the point you get for each Fulcrum you controlled during the game. What are the parameters for this point?
Is this for every new fulcrum you occupy during the game, that has never been occupied by you?
Every fulcrum you take from an enemy?
You get points at the beginning of the game for being deployed in a fulcrum?
Can I sit 2 wizards at a tower and have them swap each turn getting a point each time?

Just think this one needs clarifying Wink

I probably need to read the Storm O Magic book, but I am wondering how a unit of Horrors as a Wizard is treated? Does the unit occupy the fulcrum, one model of the unit, or can they not be occupiers of a Fulcrum?

I think they are going to be out of luck for SoM. A Herald can enter, or a single Horror could, but it doesn't count as a wizard when less then 5 models, so that wouldn't work either.

Another question...

You said you may spend another 500 pts on SoM items, character or Monsters....what are the other options? Do without the 500 pts or can you take normal army models at 500 pts worth?

So for example, could I take an extra unit of Executioners with my 500 pts?

I didn't think it was that ambiguous. It's the total number of fulcra you controlled at any point in the game. Because there are only four on the table, it maxes out at four points, total. Because you're able to deploy into both fulcra on your side of the table, you could conceivably start out with two points. If you manage to get into all four fulcra, you get four points. All but one: three.

What Ben said. Horrors are out of luck, as pretty much the very first rule for Arcane Fulcrums says "Only one model may occupy..."

No...Hell No. Wink

The way it reads now is that you can take up to 500 pts of models from the Storm of Magic book as part of your 2500 pt army. This is a little less than the 25% called for in the book, so I'm assuming that is why the number instead of the percentage for allotment. If Executioners were in the SoM book, then yep, you could take an additional unit...but luckily for us, they AREN'T. Razz

For simplicity's sake, armies are 2,500 point armies. Percentages are based on that, so you can take 625 points of Lords, and need to take 625 points of Core. If someone turned up with their usual 2,500 point army, they'd be fine.

You can, if you're so inclined, spend 0-500 points on a "Monsters and Magic" allowance. This is from pg 25 of Storm of Magic. These points are spent on Scrolls of Binding (units, monsters, characters from Storm of Magic and, in theory, White Dwarf?), Mythic Artefacts (items from Storm of Magic), and Pacts (Vampire, Tomb King or Daemonic choices: see Storm of Magic for details.)

So no, you can't take Executions with your points. You could take a (Storm of Magic) Hydra with them, if you wanted, though.

Since it sounds like at least one person (:cough: Joey :cough:) hasn't RTFM'd: speak up if you don't have access to Storm of Magic so I can try to make sure you get the chance to flip through the book.

It's because I'm trying to accommodate both:
- 2,500 point armies from people don't have the book / want to fuss with the Scrolls of Binding
- 2,000 point Storm of Magic armies (that get 25% extra points, which works out to 500)

Basing percentages off of the full 2,500 points is to simplify things and, hopefully, make life easier for everyone.

In case it hasn't be confirmed for me yet, I am confirming... So can I proxy Trollbloods models as Trolls? I have them on 40mm square bases, and need something to take with Storm of Magic points...

I've got you down (you'll have to forgive me: I'm totally blanking on your real name).

And yeah, that won't be a problem at all.

Thanks for clearing my foggy mind Rich. I was about to make a list at 2500 and add 500 SoM points Shocked I will go back and reread, but I thought SoM was an additional 25% worth of monsters/magic and I thought you were doing the same at only 500 points. So now I am clear and will reread my Rulebook a bit more before asking silly questions Wink

So I am need of 2 fulcrums(painted) and 2500 total points worth of an Army.
