I've been on the fence w/ Mantic since day 1. Their minis are cheap, and look pretty good for the cost... but are never cheap and good enough that I'd prefer them over GW's minis.

Well, they've been doing a KickStarter to raise money for the hardcover of their rulebook, and in doing so, are making a TON of stuff available for very, very little money. Enough so that the cheap/good looking ratio's tipped enough for me to dump a bit of money into it.

http://kck.st/KRdl8f

Not only are the army deals pretty good deals, they're doing a bunch of buy-one-get-one-free deals and are now sculpting a new unit @ every $10k. (Depending on how much you've contibruted, you either get one each of the new models, one of the new units, or one each of the new units).

Anyway, it's pretty crazy, and might be relevant to your interests.

I for one think we should give them enough money for them to fly us out and sculpt models after us. We'd be pretty awesome as minatures I think....

I'm loling over here. They have received $89,000 toward their goal of $5,000. So, I'd say with this project 1780% funded, I'd say they are well on their way.....

Ahhh, if only I had a few thousand to pledge, I'd get a little 3" figure that looks like me. Cool
Pretty cool and outstanding marketing.

They hit their goal first day, I think.

Probably cheaper to just hire a sculptor...

I'm still not sure which army I want to get with my perk. I've been planning Dwarves, but I'm not convinced. Thoughts?

Honestly, traditional dwarfs are boring to play. They can be powerful, but are pretty scripted on their play style.

yeah, i had heard that they reached it right away as well. I just think its hilarious how successful this kickstart project has been. I would probably be all over this if they would have included abyssal, twilight kin, or goblins in the first few tiers of contribution. At this point, I may just go in for the buy 3 werewolves for $25 and get 3 free.

I thought about getting some of their regular dwarves and painting them evin to be infernal guard, but the conversions I'm starting just seem way cooler to me. That just feels like taking steps in the wrong direction.

I got a bunch of ghouls so I like their undead line. The O&G seem pretty cool, too. Whatever models that have the purple cloaks in the pics look good. The elves just look too much like 3rd/4th edition Citadel models. Ie: yuk

Purple cloaks are "Twilight Kin" = Dark Elves.

Yeah, their High Elves were their first (or second?) line: and boy howdy, it shows.

That's what I'm starting to think. Plus, it's not like I don't already have an army that does a lot of shooting. Maybe I'll do Abyssal Dwarves; they're the only line GW doesn't actually do.

I keep going back and forth about whether or not I like those mantic models. The price point is fantastic, and they are kind of cool. I just dont know if I'd like them more or less in person. I like the warmachine, and am really on the fence about the half-breeds. I want bull centaur render for my little people of chaos army, and would lvoe to not have to do the conversion work I have in mind. In the end its hard to picture I will feel like I didn't sell myself short if I went with these.

But 'dem werewolves....

In terms of straight stuff-for-buck, it's a crazy good deal. But a lot of that value comes from a mess of different stuff... and maybe it'll be tough to use Werewolves, Goblin cavalry and Abyssal Dwarf elites.

That said: not counting any of those extra miniatures, the book, dice or whatever and only counting the Abyssal Dwarves I'm currently eyeballing... I'm looking at something like a 45% discount off MSRP.

(If I ballpark the extra figures, but not the book or dice it works out to closer to 66% off MSRP.)

Well, I finally jumped in ($175 level but may do more). I figured I can get a nice chunk of stuff for VC and O&G at that price point, especially compared to our favorite whipping company. I am hoping the skeletons look better than the photos show, but I am not holding my breath.

If they stink and someone wants them cheap....

Almost to $225k so Celestial Men-at-Arms will be in. Their version of Greatswords at $250k, but it is down to the wire.
