Great! How much coverage can you manage? This is for an Apocalypse game, so I'm looking to use two or three tables.

I've got regular old ruins and hills, and of course my three skulls. I think I also have a bag of Snotlings hanging around somewhere that I can model up performing a Chaotic ritual.

I have a mold for resin gravestones. I can dig it out and make a ton of them.

Please do so. The more of this stuff we can get for free, the better.

John showed me his Garden of Morr on Saturday, and it looks superb. It's just what we need for the Graveyard.

So, between John's Garden of Morr and Kevin's molded gravestones, we've got the Graveyard covered.

Casey said he can supply the Spooky Wood.

That leaves the Haunted House. If we can get that together by October, we can run this even THIS year instead of next year. I found a paper model Ghost House here: http://ravensblight.com/GhostHouse.html. What do you guys think?

I have enough Spooky terrain to fill a board or 2... I would be happy to bring it! The link won't quit work but it gets you to the folder... I have added to this sense I took this picture.

Excellent! Now we can start talking rules. Here's what I've got so far.

Spooky Terrain

Haunted House
The haunted house provides excellent cover and is indestructible. However, the malevolent spirits within seek to terrorize all who enter.
Terrain Type: Building, AV 15 on all sides, 3 Hull Points, Transport Capacity: Infinite
Special Rules: Mighty Bulwark, Terrifying Spectres, Eternal Dimense of Evil
Terrifying Spectres: Every turn a unit is in the Haunted House, it needs to make a Morale Check, even if it’s normally immune to Morale Checks or can choose to automatically pass them. If the Moral Check is failed, the unit begins Falling Back per the normal rules, with the Haunted House counting as an enemy model. Any unit that falls back because of this rule may not enter the Haunted House again; they’re too scared!
Eternal Dimense of Evil: If the Haunted House is destroyed, remove it from the table and place any models inside on the spot the house used to occupy. Any models that can’t be placed are removed as casualties. The House must be immediately re-deployed via Deep Strike in a location chosen by the player that destroyed it. If the House scatters onto other models or impassable terrain, move it to the nearest safe location by the shortest route possible.

Graveyard
The Graveyard is inhabited by zombies that grab the legs of those who pass through, pulling them down and consuming their flesh. The only thing they won’t eat is other zombies.
The Graveyard is provides a 4+ cover save to non-vehicle models within, regardless of whether they are 25% obscured.
The Graveyard is Difficult Terrain.
The Graveyard is Dangerous Terrain to all units except Plague Zombies. Independent Characters that are attached to the Plague Zombies are not immune.

Terrible Wood
The Terrible Wood is full of helpful paths that allow travelers to move through it more quickly than through a normal wood. However, it also inhabited by evil trees that reach out and grab those who pass by.
The Terrible Wood provides a 4+ cover savenon-vehicle models within, regardless of whether they are 25% obscured.
The Terrible Wood is not Difficult Terrain, but it is Dangerous Terrain.

The Fog
The unnatural Fog moves with a will of its own, hungry for the souls of those who find themselves trapped in its swirling mists.
At the beginning of every Movement Phase, The Fog scatters 2d6”. If a Hit is rolled in the scatter dice, the team whose turn it is may choose the direction of movement.
If the Fog moves over a unit, it must make a Leadership Test. If the test is failed, the unit is temporarily possessed by the Fog. It can no longer act this turn, but instead becomes an enemy unit and acts in the opponent’s turn. At the end of the opponent’s turn, it reverts to it’s original side.

Right, so. Two thing have happened recently.

1. I got minis for Dracula, the Wolfman, the Mummy, and Frankenstein's Monster from Reaper. They're a little small, but they look great. I will proceed with painting them shortly.

2. I watched The Fog, and will rewrite the rules for The Fog accordingly. I'm thinking there will be Fog Zombies that will come out of the fog and attack the nearest unit, or something like that.

Also, modelling the Fog Zombies will be fun. I have some Imperial Guardsmen to convert up, but I'd like to have models from a variety of armies for this project. So, if anybody's got some spare models from any 40K army and/or zombie bits laying about, let me know.

Upon some reflection, I've decided to remove The Fog from this game. I think I want to do Classic Horror this year, with just the Universal Monsters.

Next year, we'll do 80's Horror, with The Fog, The Thing, Freddy, and Jason.

What do you guys think?

That sounds good. Leave some material for next year.

I'd also like to make this a charity event. There's a group called Scares That Care, which benefits sick children. I'd like to require a donation in order to play in the game. What do you guys think would be reasonable for a minimum donation? $10? $15?

$10 is fine by me. I'm interested in playing and maybe after the NovaOpen, I will be able to help out if you need it.

Thanks,
Bart

Playtesting for the special rules for the event happened over the weekend. Thanks to Peter and Jamie for helping out with that. I've made some modifications to the special rules and characters, so things should work out well at the real game.

Here are some other thoughts that I'd like your opinions on.

1. I'm also considering the possibility that it may not be practical for me to play in this game while also running it. I've got a set of special rules and characters that should pretty much run themselves, but I'm not sure. What do you guys think? Is it practical to run an Apocalypse game and also play in it?

2. The turns during the playtesting took a really long time. This is something that plagues Apocalypse games in general. I'm considering using timed turns. What are your thoughts? Is it a good idea? What should the time limits be?

Your input is appreciated. Thanks.

I have found that playing and running a game makes the turns takes even longer, because you inevitably get stuck in your own part while people are waiting.

Any game with lots of people will take time. We can speed it up to help reach a "conclusion" by using timed rounds. I don't mind being the gamemaster, answering questions, keeping time, controlling special models, or whatever for this game. That way you can play and not worry.

All the special characters will be under player control. That's not a problem. The problem is rules calls.

Would you be willing to be a Rules Adjudicator? That way, there'd be two us making rules calls.
