I saw Mad Max on Sunday, and it was FRIGGIN' AWESOME!
I loved the action, the explosions, the ridiculous, over the top post-apocalyptic insanity! Immortan Joe, Rictus Erectus, and the Warboys were all beautifully, terrifyingly mad. And Max was suitably gritty and broken, yet tough as nails.
But the best part of the movie, for me, was Furiosa. Charlize Theron did a wonderful job, and I love the character. I was worried that she would fall into the Sudden Weakness trope, in which a female character is built up to be a total badass for the entire movie, and then she suddenly falls apart at the end and has to be saved by a male character. I always feel like it's a betrayal of the character when that's done. But that didn't happen in Fury Road. Furiosa starts the movie as a badass, and she ends the movie as a badass. This is important. I want my daughters to see more characters like this, women who are strong, independent, and fearless. I want them to grow up knowing that they can do whatever they set their mind to.
Bloody excellent film. _________________ Nassir Ahmad
