Where: Game Parlor Chantilly
When: 1/14
Cost: $10

Setup: 11AM
Game 1: 11:30 -2:00
Lunch: 2:30 - 3:00
Game 2: 3:00 - 5:30
Game 3: 5:45 - 8:15

Army Construction
- 2,500 points
- Any army currently in print by GW
    - Chaos Dwarfs use the Indy GT list
- Special Characters are allowed, excepting Teclis, Thorek Ironbrow, Kiros Fateweaver, and The Masque of Slaanesh.
- Open lists. Be prepared to share your army list at the beginning of the game.

Up to 500 points of your army may be spent on "Storm of Magic" selections. These choices are completely optional, and do not count towards your points allowances or selection caps. (So, for example, you could take 625 points worth of Heroes and spend your 500 points on Hero-level wizard Scrolls of Binding.)
    - 0-1 Mythic Artefacts
    - Scrolls of Binding (no more than 2 of a specific Scroll)
    - 0-1 Pact

That makes your points allocations:
    625+ Core
    0 - 625 Lords
    0 - 625 Heroes
    0 - 1250 Special
    0 - 625 Rare
    0 - 500 Storm of Magic

Some selections in the Storm of Magic book are not allowed, because they're impractical:
    - Dodecahedron of Continental Drift
    - Seven Secret Sigils of Summoning

If you have something that calls for another model (like the Giantkin Helm), make sure you have an appropriate model with you.

Scenarios
We'll be using the basic Storm of Magic scenario for all three games.
We'll try to make sure that terrain will be arranged so that each table is as close to identical to every other table as possible.
All terrain that can be randomized will be randomized. I'll see what I can do to to streamline this as much as possible.

Scoring:

Battle Points
Each game will be scored:
    4/0/2 - Win / Lose / Tie
+1 point for each Arcane Fulcrum controlled at the end of the game
+1 point for each Arcane Fulcrum you controlled at any point in the game
+1 point if you achieved Dominance at any point in the game
+1 point if your opponent never achieved Dominance at any point in the game
+1 point if you successfully cast an Equilibrium or Dominance-level spell or succesfully strike all three Ancestor Runes at least once during the game
+½ point for each Arcane Fulcrum Miscast you suffer (to a maximum of 6 points)
+½ point for each fully painted Arcane Fulcrum you brought to the tournament

Sportsmanship
At the end of the day, list your games in order of enjoyability. These rankings will affect final scores.
    +3 points for each #1
    +2 points for each #2
    +1 point for each #3

Appearance
During lunch, leave your army (and Arcane Fulcrums) out for other folks to vote on for Players' Choice. Additionally, each vote will be worth +1 point towards final scores. Armies that are not fully painted cannot win Player's Choice, but votes will still count towards Best Overall.

Prizes
50% of the fees will go to the player with the overall highest score. Overall VP will break ties.
50% of the fees will go to the player with the most Players' Choice votes (or the player with the second most, if the same person's won Best Overall). I'll vote to break ties.

Organization
No painting requirement, though it'd obviously be a drag on winning best appearance.
Not restricted to CGL peeps... everyone's welcome!
We'll need some folks to bring terrain & mats, so feel encouraged to bring some. Worst case: it stays in the trunk and doesn't get used.
If you have a copy of Storm of Magic, please bring it (and put your name in it!). If you don't, be sure to bring a d8.

No Storm of Magic? No Problem!
If you do not have a copy of Storm of Magic that's okay. Flip through the copy at GPC or ask to borrow someone else's copy to familiarize yourself with the scenario, rules and options during army building. Remember that the 500 point Storm of Magic allocation is totally optional: you can run a regular 2,500 point army if you prefer. If you'd like to spend it on Storm of Magic Artefacts or Scrolls of Binding, free to PM me with your Storm of Magic choices and I'll punch them into Army Builder and have a printout ready for you game day. (Make sure you do this with sufficient notice for me to do this, though: PM me 10AM Saturday morning and you're SOL.)

I'll try to be ready with some printouts to streamline things for folks that don't have the book: specifically the Arcane Fulcrum Miscast chart and a Magical Flux table.

I'm there. Just for other's FYI, you need a wizard in order to control the fulcrums. So normal lists can be used as long as you have a wizard in it.

You will want more than one. Take some cheap level 1's because you will want more than just the normal one or two wizards.

Yes, definitely familiarize yourself with the scenario rules.

Only casters can occupy Arcane Fulcra, and occupying Arcane Fulcra is how you win the scenario and earn those sweet, sweet Battle Points. Take many casters.

I'd like to throw up a definite maybe at this point, sounds like a blast. So long as I can things to line up I'll be in there like swim wear. If I make it, I'll be bringing WOC or Little People of Chaos, henceforth referred to as LPOC.

The Indy GT list for LPOC (formely known as chaos dwarves) can only take magic users at the Lord level. This seems to put them at a significant disadvantage for this sort of thing. Would you have any ideas about making this more fair or should I just not think about bringing them?

Not really willing to deal with the Indy CD rules. Why are you banning a legal army list for a fandex?

Azgorh fits nicely into the Storm of magic. As for the Fandex and Storm of magic, buy storm of magic mages. Even some of the monsters are mages and can occupy fulcrums. And you might get a ruling that demonsmiths count like runesmiths for the normal Dwarfs.

That's a very good question.

Scrolls of Binding include a number of lower-level casters that run between ~170 to 310 points, and pacts allow for 2-3 additional characters.

Furthermore, between that and focusing your Lord points on casters, is that sufficient?

Also, as Scott points out: it might be appropriate to treat some of your characters as runesmiths. I'll look into it.

This is something I've articulated several times before, so I'll be brief and blunt.

- FW army lists are generally not acceptable at tournaments. Balance tends to be spotty at best and, much more significantly, they're fundamentally unfair, because not everyone has access to them. Anyone can buy or flip through in-print army books at the store; GPC doesn't keep a copy of Tamurkan lying around for folks to reference. The online CD list is allowed specifically because we have so many CD players locally, and anyone can access it.

- There's going to be enough going on with playing the variant format and juggling all of the Scrolls of Binding, we don't need the additional complication of a book that's been out for a month that only two people have been able to buy.

- No clue where you keep getting this idea that Tamurkan is a "legal army list." If it were "legal" then Games Workshop would be printing it, instead of Forgeworld.

- Furthermore, the tournament rules say "Any army currently in print by GW, Chaos Dwarfs use the Indy GT list..." the armies in Tamurkan are not in that set of armies... therefore, by definition, they are not legal. Illegal, even. In other words, "I'm the tournament organizer, and I say we're using the Indy GT list. That's why."

Now, that said: since Storm of Magic's basically Fantasy Apocalypse I have to agree that Storm of Magic is probably the most appropriate format for that book to show up in. The cost, the newness, and the additional layer of complications it would present on top of an already complicated day all come together to make it inappropriate. After it's been out for a year and we've done a couple of these, then we'll see.

From the GT list (pg 35):
Quote:
Arcane Alchemy (Bound Spell, Power Level 5)
The Daemon is able to channel the magical energies of chaos through the weapon. As such, a Daemonsmith with a Daemon Weapon counts as level 1 wizards in all respects, with the exception that they never generate power dice (generate dispel dice as normal). The weapon contains a single bound spell, chosen randomly from any of the following the Magic Lores: Fire, Metal, Shadow or Death as described in the Warhammer Rulebook. Note that Daemonsmiths may substitute this spell with the first spell on the list, in the same way as wizards.

So, Daemonsmiths are Lvl 1 Wizards, and cast the spell they have as a 5+. The only special handwaving required here is clarifying that Daemonsmiths are also allowed to use Cantrips and Cataclysm Spells, which is implied by "Lvl 1 Wizard."

Dude, Scott Ripely, with how much of a stink you are making here I sure hope your Chaos Dwarf army looks awesome. Either full of old big hats or lots of heavily converted new models, otherwise You're Doing It Wrong.

Rush is running the tournament. If he wants to ban empire handgunners then it is his call. When we run our own tourneys we can do whatever
we want.

There is a FAQ on the Warmongers site that adapts the list for 8th. Among the other changes, the daemonsmiths lose the bound spell and the "counts as a level 1 wizard" aspect.

Your call on what to do, Rush. I think the fimir, zoat, and pact options should be enough to keep the Indie CD list playable.

Thoughts on what motivated that change? That's a pretty substantial one.

Well, if they're not Lvl 1 casters, they have the ability to use Ancestor Runes. Everyone else has access to Hero-level characters that can occupy Arcane Fulcra; I'd rather not demand that CD players blow their Magic and Monsters wad on casters.

Games are about fun, and at this point, most people do not feel that playing a tournament game against an army that is brand new and costs more than $100 to get rules for is fun.

To put things very simply and blunty, why would you want to arrange a game that you are confident wont be fun for the dude or dudette across the table?

All of my CDs are not converted. They are Mantic CDs and no, they aren't painted very well, as I don't usually do that. They are what they are, though. Smile

I have also played the Indie List, and like it too. But, it's all good.

Pg 105, Tamurkhan Book:

"As well as all this, also included in this section is a Chaos Dwarf army list for the grim Legoion of Azgorh. This should be considered an official army list for Warhammer"

That's the foundation of my belief it's a legal list. Cause it's stated as being one.

And it's available on GW's website.

I'll try to explain this one more time....

This is a game, played against flesh and blood people. It is about having fun, the common objection at this point is not about whether or not it is offically been adapted by GW, or can be purchased for the mere price of $70. The problem is that its not fun for the other guy. This is the fact, and the problem at this time.

Also, if a forgeworld list is so legitmate, why do they need to tell you it should be considered an army list? Other books don't include this in the begining, the fact that this even needs to be said is really more proof to the contrary.

I love LPOC. I am very excited about the Tamurkahn list, but I just think you should respect the idea that people are saying that dont want to play a tourey game against it so soon.
