If you have a moment, please read the article in the link below, especially if you have kids in the Fairfax County school system.

http://fairfaxnews.com/2015/01/elected-county-board-school-board-members-prepare-vote-raise/

This is outrageous. I can see justification for a small increase, but 30-100% is totally out of line. I have sent angry emails to the School Board, and each Board member individually, telling them that this is total BS.

They get paid $20,000 a year currently. While the raise is coming all at once, a $40,000 is still less than a first year teacher. The question is how much responsibility does being on the school board take. Is it a full time job?

Government is known for wasteful spending but rarely is it because they are paying people to much individually. It's because pork barrel legislation and special interest groups lead to money going to things that aren't in the country's best long term interest. There's also a lot of people in government that don't do very much and are unmotivated. But rarely are these unmotivated people paid to much. Quite the opposite.

Looking at the bonuses people get in business, even when the company is losing money is much more concerning.

In the big scheme of things $20,000 is very little money. How much do you think the average person on this forum has spent on warhammer products? I'd bet Harry's spent 20k.

I think it said in the article that they have other jobs. But if I think it was on the board members. At 100k I hope not the executive board members

edit
Just reread and both boards are part time jobs Rolling Eyes

$40,000 just for participating in the boards, especially as a part-time job? That's ridiculous! Evil or Very Mad

Good to know that taxpayer dollars are going towards lining the pockets of school boards. Crying or Very sad
