Gene,
Having played Phil Karl's Sylvan Elves, how would you play it in the future? There's a decent chance you face him at Southern Assault for example.
As you know, Frank played him, then I played him and then you played him. My army didn't really have any counters to his Avatar of Nature at all. A combo charge against his regular treemen might have worked for me, but the stubborn and 5 W is scary for me, as I'm likely to charge in, not quite kill the thing and be counter charged. The treekin are roc-hard (my one lesson learned with them is I have to direct attacks at the champion to force the BSB into the front rank, so that I can kill the BSB and remove the stubborn). I'm thinking if I have to play him in Southern Assault, I just run away -- but that is probably a loss for me because he eats all of my infantry and I don't get many points from him.

After keying in the results on the 9th Age data sheet, I see that HE are having the worst time against SE globally. I mean horribly. That is the army against which HE score the most zero's than any other that they face by a huge margin. Maybe knowing that up front will help your strategy. HE are doing really good against WDG, VS, DH, & DL. _________________ Thanks,

Yeah, now I have no idea how many of those SE builds are like that of Phil's. _________________ Thanks,

Ben,
thanks for the feedback. I've really given that loss a lot of thought. If I face Phil Karl at Southern Assault, I will play the game completely differently. You always learn something when you lose. . . .

I did 4 wounds to his Treeman Avatar in the first shooting phase, but misfired twice in the second round both not able to shoot for 2 rounds, King with the Wizard hood had MindRazor so I threw the mounted Eadbashers into a treefather then mindrazored them, only got two wounds over two rounds of combat. I was able to charge the treeman Avatar with my chariot and the block of Eadbashers with spears. It only had 2 wounds left and I had 14 spear attacks and 3 characters with great weapons. I declined the challenge so still had 6 Str 7 GW attacks and only put a single wound on the Avatar. (he also had the Fix it Up spell on him so he was rerolling 6's)
I would play it the same, I think my army should be able to deal with them, especially if I can get the first turn. _________________ Visit my youtube channel - WarGaming from the Balcony

Gene,
interesting. I know that if I play him at SA, I will play very differently.
