There aren't any local WHFB tournaments in July: let's fix that!

Where: Game Parlor Chantilly
When: 7/16.
Cost: $10

Setup: 11AM
Game 1: 11:30 -2:00
Lunch: 2:30 - 3:00
Game 2: 3:00 - 5:30
Game 3: 5:45 - 8:15

Army Construction
  • 2,500 points.
  • Any army currently in print by GW
  • Chaos Dwarf army (someone want to clarify which one? ChaosDwarfsOnline or something)
  • No FW lists. (Just to be safe.)
  • Special Characters are allowed, excepting Teclis, Thorek Ironbrow, Kiros Fateweaver, and The Masque of Slaanesh.
  • Powerscroll type items must meet the casting value in order to trigger. Sad
  • Open lists. Be prepared to share your army list at the beginning of the game.

Scenarios
  • We'll be using the first three NoVA Open scenarios, which can be found here.
  • Terrain will be arranged so that each table is as close to identical to every other table as possible.
  • All terrain will be normal, save those features that are normally Mysterious. Mysterious features will be identical across all tables for that round.

Organization
  • If 8 or less players attend, 50% of the fees will go to the best general, 50% to a player's choice-based best appearance award. If more than 8 players attend, 33% of the fees will go to each of the undefeated player and 33% going to the best appearance.
  • No painting requirement, though it'd obviously be a drag on winning best appearance.
  • Not restricted to CGL peeps... though it looks like it's kinda full of them.
  • We'll need some folks to bring terrain & mats, so feel encouraged to bring some. Worst case: it stays in the trunk and doesn't get used.

I'm down. I'll be bringing my lil people of chaos. I've a new model for my High Priest and I'm stoked. Some of you will miss the berserker with the big hat slapped on, but I think it's time for a change in management...

I like sas, and I suppose I might be down with doing the storm of magic. Do you guys know if your opponent is stuck with his normal 1D6 dispell nice? 4 vs. 1 doesn't sound very fair....

I like the Indy GT list, but I hear the Ravening horde list is also widely excepted. The expansion from FW should also be out in july, but it's cool if you guys want to stick to what we got for now.

It won't be readily available (since you'll have to order it from the UK), and will have _just_ come out so it's not reasonable to expect anyone to have the slightest idea of what it looks like.

That's also true of Storm of Magic, but hey: at least with that everyone's on equal footing.

Which is the CD list you use most often?

I'm not interested in SoM for the moment...not sure I want to go at it in a tournament where magic is potentially more powerful than it already is...

Make sure to note your preference for sass / no sass. Right now, it's looking to be a sass-free Saturday... but that's with 2 against 1 for.

I'm in with the Wood Elves.

Let the beat down commence!

Oh, and Sass-free. I probably won't have time to even read the new SoM rules between now and then.

While I do think that SoM will be an entertaining 'for fun' game, I don't believe it has any place in a tournament.

Didn't say no watchtower. We'll see.

I'll throw my hat in there as I should be able to squeak out a day off. I vote No-Sass for this.

However, I've been toying around with the idea of a magic based tournament for a couple of years so after the SoM comes out I'll give it a go. Due to the heavy handidness of magic in 8th edition, I'll write the tournament rules in a way that will not be "competitive" so that you can experiment with magic and not get ben..t Wink when you loose that unit to magic.

I'd like to suggest that you see if you can use some of the scenarios from the "Big" Main Rulebook (middle of it somewhere) fitting them in for tournament play if you can.

Thanks, Rush.

I think we've hit critical mass on the anti-sass. So let it be written, so let it be done.

Thoughts on fees? My inclination runs towards $10/person. Where we're at, that'd be $50/prize. Open to cheaping it out, though.

Hey guys,

I'm in, bringing Dark Elves. Frank will come also, bringing O&G.

I like the idea of using Nova Open scenarios.
