Hey so I have a question I thought some of you might know something about. I didn't play football in high school, or youth leagues but I'm interested in it now (I wasn't then). I think I have the talent / ability to do it, but I haven't ever had any formal coaching.

What I'm asking, is if any of you know of any local leagues that would be willing to take someone and give them the basic level of coaching and developing them into an athlete. I know I don't have the ability to just walk into a college team, so I'm hoping for somewhere that I can learn the game from a player perspective rather than a fan.

Any further questions feel free to ask.

Are you still leaving soon? Is this for when you are back or before you leave?

I know Sam's son Chris went to a camp or something for football years ago. I don't think it was to learn football, but it was just drills and fitness. You might ask Sam if he remembers anything about it.

Although I think you are asking about learning to play the game as opposed to getting better at playing.

Well, I am capable of playing, I'm looking for something where I can play the game, in actual games and etc. with my relative lack of experience.

It goes to 16 :/ that's the conflict I'm running into, most leagues seem designed for kids, once your my age apparently your supposed to be playing college or not at all.

You could look into adult flag football leagues. No tackling but it is still full contact on the line.

I know the Fredericksburg Field house runs all sorts of leagues, there has to be something similar in Fairfax.

Rugby is fun if not rough... but alot of drinking involved. Wink

There are alot of flag football leagues, at least in DC. I would imagine there are some around here as well.

My brother-in-law is super-huge into rugby up here. I can point you to him if you'd like.

As it may seem fun, unless you have grown up playing it, you won't find any enjoyment in playing contact football after the first hit. Trust me. I played the sport for ten years and have many injuries to warn you about. You think I play table top games cause I like it? Wink

Look into flag football as there are several leagues around the area. I believe there is a central website for it. A friend of mine used to play so I'll find out more information. I would suggest that you do some research and volunteer as an assistant for a youth league or something to get you involved in the game and learning it. Most teams and coaches will not have the time or the patience to teach newbies at your age level unless you can throw a ball 50+ yards or run a 4.2 second 40 yard dash.
