Just finished the "last" book of the song of Ice and Fire series, and I'm so disappointed to have to wait for yet another book. I enjoyed the story, but really felt put out by being misled 2x and how little resolution we got out of this last book. A number of story arcs are left in ridiculous places, if that bastard makes me wait another 2 years, there will be violence....

hahahahaha goodluck dude

Don't bother getting excited, he'll either die before its finished or the ending will be soul crushingly bad and I'm not sure which is worse.

I hate you for saying what I was thinking.

Martin has been pissing me off with this delay... and he's not getting any younger. He had a bad run of health problems last year just after Game of Thrones finished taping, but before he finished this last book. He's got 2 more books to write... Bastard better not die or someone will be digging up his grave and making a dead man tell a tale.

Although I enjoyed his books, he writes slower than a one year old with a crayon.. gave up on waiting on him

I am hoping that the HBO series will spur him to some faster writing. He's got 6 years to complete everything, if we can assume HBO is going for the whole shebang.

I was both happy and disappointed in the most recent book. Better than "Feast", but still not as amazing as the first 3. A bit too much travelogue with Tyrion, some unnecessary plot lines being introduced, and a wholly transparent cliffhanger for Jon that I am nearly certain will be resolved with a deus ex machina.

I just hope 2 books will be enough to wrap everything up. I am cautiously optimistic.

Eh, the odds the show gets finished is less than zero.

Even still, I'd rather rewatch The Wire (AS I AM DOING NOW) than watch another episode of Sean Bean looking confused or every other actor being generic and scruffy.

I'm terrified to reread the series because I'm afraid it is as boring as the show.

I might stick with the series when A Song of Ice And Fire: Book 6: Everyone is a Targarerereryan! comes out.

I doubt I'll stick around for A Song of Ice and Fire: Book 7: GRRM is dead / GRRM Forgot To Write Characters With Personality So I guess Tyrion Saves The Day Because Everyone Else Is Boring.

Another 2 books, that's outrageous......

I loved the TV series, and found that I really liked his charaters.

As for our lovable bastard, you suppose he's going to possess Ghost's or the giants body? Do you suppose his brother , the new green man will hook him up with some old timey magic?

I can't wait to see what kind of bad ass stuff Aryia ends up doing. She's going to F some people up.

Do you guys suppose Tyrion will ever end up riding one of those dragons, or just play an advisory role?

If Jon is dead it'll follow the pattern of "let's spend lots of time with boring characters but not really give them any actual personality outside of a series of loose adjectives" and then shockingly kill that character because GRRM is SERIOUS and ADULT fantasy.

If Jon escapes death from any manner it'll just hurt a series that is already getting pretty bad.

Arya could be an interesting character but instead she'll just become a sociopath with ninja powers. Lots of actual adults will think it's cool or interesting. It won't be.

I hope Tyrion just avoids the rest of the main storyline. I don't care to see Tyrion, Jon, and Dany ride dragons and save the day from the undead crap beyond the wall.

It's a shame, too, as GRRM had a really great story that should have spanned three books and just dealt with the Starks and Lannisters.

I'll still give him money for the next book because I'm a sucker. I just wish adults would stop pretending like ASoIaF is somehow literature or otherwise serious fiction. It's not Moby Dick, it's a book about dragons and swords and all the cliches that go with it.

I couldn't agree more with those last two statements. This is a fantasy novel, and the fun is in the ridiculous.

And what's not to love about a face changing ninja sociopath? I've been waiting for her to answer her own death prayers for thousands of pages now.....

As far as the show goes... I thought I saw something about Books 3 and 4 being merged into one season.... or maybe I'm misremembering.

Not sure if HBO would have 7 seasons of Games of Thrones. Maybe 5.

Well, they're definitely splitting Book 2 across two seasons.

haha really, Richard?

So, 1 season for Book 1 + 2 seasons for Book 2 + 2 seasons for Book 3 (you'd have to) + 1 season for Book 4 + 1 season for Book 5 + 2 seasons for Books 6 & 7 (let's be optimistic!) and you get 9 seasons.

9 seasons.

There's zero chance that this show finishes. There's a better chance Firefly fans muster enough money from selling their pog collections to pay for another season of that mediocre show than A Game of Thrones going the distance.

Man, had you told me three years ago that I would have been more excited about a softcore porn version of Spartacus than both The Walking Dead and A Game of Thrones I would have called you a liar Sad

Wow, you guys really read Shocked If its longer than a comic book I fall asleep after a page or 2. My Mom will read a book in a day or 2. Why couldn't I get those genes instead of the procrastination genes Confused

Meanwhile I will be watching the HBO series

I know Sad

I was really excited for the show, too. It's just kind of crappy.

I'm rewatching The Wire right now so I might be holding everything else to ridiculous expectations.

I think they did a really good job with the show. No show or movie will be exactly like a book, not unless the book is 150 pages long (or the book was written AFTER the movie).

I can see them breaking up Book 2 into 2 seasons... there is alot going on. Book three can probably be 1 season and book 4 is long, but could easily be merged in with another book for a season, but couldn't stand alone by itself... there are too many characters missing.

Anyway, I can't wait to see the war of the 5 kings... hopefully they do some larger scale battle scenes, at least with CGI.
