Rant incoming. I haven't really nerd raged in a while, but here we go. NSFW language, you have been warned.

So I had a guy freak out when I confirmed you can't assault the same turn you outflank/deepstrike/come from reserve in 40k. He read, and read, and read some more before I lost my patience and pointed out the passage where it explicitly states this. I waited for almost 5 minutes before I said anything further.

Remember, I was ASKED.

He then proceeds to tell me to let him read the rules (after all I did was point out WHERE it was after 5 minutes of him not finding it). Then he gets this [censored] eating grin on his face, and crows, "It's a mission special rule! Not a full game rule!".

/facepalm

Dude, what mission are you playing? Ok. Does it have the Reserve rule? Hint, ALL OF THE MISSIONS IN THE FUCKING BOOK DO. Yes? SO THAT RULE COUNTS FOR YOUR GAME!

So I put my hands up and said, "Hey, it's your game. If you choose to ignore official rules just because you don't like them, then go for it! But don't act like they aren't there when you are shown you are incorrect."

Do we ignore Dwellers Below because we think it's a bullshit spell? No. Do you ignore Instant Death on 'Nids because they used to have it in synapse and you think 'Nids need a boost? No!

To top it all off, the GW employee (I. Hate. These. Morons.) tried to say "It was a special rule..." So I promptly replied to the fact that it was a rule, in EVERY FUCKING MISSION! He walked off and didn't say much afterwards.

This is why I do not go into GW stores, at least not often. The outright social ineptitude and hostility from nerds for who touching bewbies means playing with their own nipples is very off-putting. Not that rubbing your own nippl.... Nevermind. Embarassed

I did, however, talk to a couple of laid back guys who asked questions, and we looked a bunch of stuff up and figured it out. When one of us was wrong (well, them not me Razz), they didn't freak and get all defensive. When I didn't know for sure, it was, "Let's look it up!"

<----- See new Avatar. GRRRRRRR.

Games workshops have an interesting crowd. I like how the Game Parlor staff doesn't really interrupt the game. The one guy comes over occasionally when hes not playing on the computer and makes one joke about "Oh, I remember this one. The battle of the grey vs the grey!" or something and then walks off. Game Parlor does have some positives to their business model.

Yeah, it's frustrating that Game Parlor doesn't give a crap about the games being played or the people who play them, but it also means they don't give a crap and just give us a big space to play in.

This is why I don't bother learning the rules - it is so much easier to have one person tell me what to do than have me think it should be done another way.

It's a maturity thing. Almost every player I've seen in a GW store was either 14 or stopped maturing at 14. I've tried to play in a GW store a couple times and it sucked.

It's not just GW stores.

We are lucky to have the group of people we have now.

I probably quoted wrong, but that is a very true statement. I've yet to meet someone in this group that I wouldn't want to play again. Most people actually paint their armies. Many of them look amazing. This is how the game of warhammer is meant to be played!

One day, I promise to be a part of the "most" in the group. Sad But really is a great group of guys (and sometimes gals) to play against at GPC.

stories like this make me shutter at the thought of playing at a GW even though I live about 1 mile from one.
