I'd like to see a sign up list. (As in how many people are going to be there?)

I'd be interested in going, but I have some concerns. I'm not interested in paying 40 bucks for a 5 game tournament if 10 people are going to show up.

That's what this looks like to me. The facebook event has about 6 people including myself. The stores website doesn't have much information about it on the calender and there is no published rules pack.

What this seems like to me is that Drop Zone games has a big store and needs to boost revenue to pay rent. The warhammer players there picked a week end when there wasn't some big magic release and they are hosting a tournament, similar to our events at GP Chantilly. That being said, I'd be willing to go to that too. However, claiming this as a "Grand Tournament" that is less than 3 weeks away and has little to no publicity seems like they are reaching a bit.

There's always Colonial. Cool 80 players, but only 3 from here are going. Crying or Very sad

I certainly don't disagree with anything that has been said either for or against. In fact, I would say that I think many of the concerns mentioned are warrented. However, let me add my own thoughts.

1. Location - having visited the venue, it looks like it would be a pretty nice place to play WFB with lots of table space.
2. Location - Traveling from DC is a pretty convenient location for a two day tournament (no hotel stay required).
3. Price - Compared to the price for NOVA, this seems like a bargin. Not to mention, DropZone provided all of the gift bags for the NOVA WFB session, which I think was close to $40 worth of value each.

It could be an absolute dud, but $40 for 5 games of warhammer with prize support seems like a pretty nice event.

The next section has nothing to do with facts but is just personal opinion (reader be warned). The reason I personally want to give DropZone a chance and give them the benefit of the doubt is for the following reason. The person who works at (and I think owns DropZone Games; and whose name I am totally blanking on at the moment) was the head guy at the GW Battlebunker when it was still there. I remember meeting him during the Battlebunker's last day as he was organizing a GW bits sale. Turns out he was under the impression up until that last day that he would be opening the new GW Battlebunker in the DC area after the HQ moved to Memphis. It was on that last day that he learned that he was actually being let go from GW entirely and that there were no plans for a future battlebunker. I asked him, "why are you even doing this? Why are you even here? GW is making you do all of this and at the end of the day you won't even have a job with GW anymore." (I should mention that he sounded as he had been with GW a long time, since they opened in Glen Burnie and had been employed there -- if not running the bunker -- for several years).

His response to me, "I love the hobby, and will do whatever it takes to keep the hobby going." He certaintly didn't seemed blind to the situation. He just said he would take time to figure out his next steps. I've got to admit, that commitment left an impression on me. So here he is, years later, and he has opened his own business in the same place he used to run for GW and is now trying to make a go of it. I feel that type dedication deserves at least a benefit of the doubt.

It is my hope that the event will be wildly successful -- but who knows. Either way,I'll let people know how it turns out.

Cheers,

This sounds like a lot of fun, I hope I get a chance to go out there for the tournament.

Draft rules pack has finally been posted.

http://www.dropzone-games.com/?attachment_id=1700

Looks (from casual inspection) to be almost identical to NOVA Open rules pack, non-conventional line-of-sight rules and all.

For those that might be interested in going, I just noticed the following post on the Dropzone Facebook page.

"The Warhammer Fantasy GT is right around the corner and we have a few slots left! Don't be left out of this battle for the Title Belt!"

This is the first I saw about a registration limit. For those that are thinking about going, I would recommend sending a message to either their facebook page, or emailing them (info@dropzone-games.com), or calling (410-553-0636).

I just sent an email this evening and will let people know I am registered.

Just a quick update.

I did call and follow up my email regarding this coming weekend's tournament.

According to the folks at Dropzone Games, as of today (Tuesday at about noon) there are 5 spots left. He went on to say that they were looking at this being a 30-40 person event. I am not sure how you only have 5 spots but still not know how many people there will be. Anywho...

If you are thinking of participating and haven't already registered, then I would recommend either joining on their facebook page, calling, or emailing them directly.

Cheers,

Folks,

I am not available to carpool on Saturday, but if anyone wants a ride up and back on Sunday I am happy to give people a lift!

I live in Northeast DC. If anyone lives in or around DC that is looking to share a ride, let me know. I am happy to pick them up and drop them off on Sunday.

Eric,

The boys and I had to leave; did they ever provide the results?

BAAH Ha! I am afraid I don't know. In fact I asked Frank to wish you good luck on your last game because I had to head out right after I finished.

By the way, he is a true gentleman and a great sportsman. Please mention to him that I really enjoyed the game and look foward to a future rematch.

If I hear anything I'll be sure to post the results.

Eric,

thanks for the feedback and kind words about Frank. He was a little down at the end of the weekend, after not winning one game. He must have won the award for facing most war machines, though, playing three O&G armies resulted in facing 22 warmchines!

Winning with a non power list at a competitive tournament is not easy.

MSU is not easy to run. Encourage him to play more, paint up some stuff of his own and add to the Dark Elves. Look at how things in the new book work together. I think I lost to Frank when we played in Fredricksburg.

If it makes him feel better, I won 1 game at Grail Quest out of 6...

I made Gene stay so I could look at the Scores.

Of the 28 Listed attendees Kelly you took 9th place. I came in 10th.

Gene came in 18th, Eric you were 19th. I didn't remember Frank's score, but he wasn't last.
