Madicon Tournaments

I'll be running both a 40K and a WHFB tournament at Madicon this year! Like the rest of the convention, you should expect a low-key, laid back experience. Rounds are decompressed to reduce time pressure, support doing both systems in parallel, and ensure folks have some time to wander a bit between rounds.

This is an event being put on by my (and Sean's, and Manly Mike's, and Sean'sFriend Brian's) old college group. They've done tournaments before, but they've always been pretty disorganized (Joey and Eric came down two years ago and probably remember). This year, with actual prize support and some more planning, I'm hoping it'll be much more successful.

When: 3/12/11
Where: Madicon, James Madison University
URL: http://madicon.org/

Tournament is open to all guests of the convention. Check the webpage for rates.

16 Slots available per system. Preregistration is encouraged, when preregistering for the convention, include a note that you're preregistering for a tournament, indicating the system. Spots will fill on a first come, first serve basis. Check the webpage for spot availability.

Schedule:
Dice start rolling at 10AM

Set up and registration: 9AM
Game 1: 10AM - 12:30PM
Game 2: 1PM - 3:30PM
Game 3: 3:45PM - 6:15PM
Wrapup: 6:30PM

Games:
Be sure to bring at least five (5) copies of your army list: one for each of your opponents, one for the judges and one for yourself.

Games will be scored W/L/D (not Massacre, Crushing Victory, etc.) with bonus objectives to help facilitate tie-breaking. Ties that cannot be resolved with these points will be broken by Victory Points.

40K
Armies currently in print (including Daemonhunters & Witchhunters) are allowed.
Games will be 1,750 points
Scenarios will be based on the core book scenarios with tweaks inspired by Battle Missions.
Lists will be open.

WHFB
Armies currently in print are allowed. No Dogs of War or Regiments of Reknown. No special characters.
Games will be 2,500 points
Scenarios will be based on the core book scenarios. Specifically Battleline, Blood & Glory, Watchtower.
Lists will be closed.

A few rules tweaks (cribbed from some of the proposed ETC changes) will be in place:

- Characters will get a 4+ Save to ignore the effects of spells that affect an entire unit and remove entire models (Dwellers Below, Infernal Gateway, for example).
- Units that are at 25% or less of their original models or are fleeing yield 50% of their VP value.
- Catapults/Stone Throwers/etc can place their template so that the center is over any one unit that is at least partially visible to them.
- Cannons can choose any point between themselves and a visible target when firing. Over- or under-guessing to shoot at units the cannon does not have line of sight to is not allowed
- Units that are 50% or more obscured by other units or terrain are considered to be Behind Soft Cover.

Soft Scores:
Because this has always been a low-key event, (and 'cause our prize budget's only so much) we won't be calculating sportsmanship scores. Please, don't read that as license to be a jackwagon, however: unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.

Similarly, because Madicon is a convention being run by (and, in many ways, for) college students who don't necessarily have time to roll out painted armies, we won't be tracking an appearance score. Models will have to be appropriately WYSIWYG, however.

Prizes:
Prizes are generously being facilitated by Lost Shade.
1st Place - Battalion Box
2nd Place - $45 Box

If you have any questions, please ask!

My wife and I are going but we're leaving Friday night and staying at a hotel. We can take two others as long as you understand you won't be crashing with us Wink
