I got 30!? That is more insulting than not getting a score at all last year. _________________ Chickhammer

No complaints about my paint score, here. In fact, I'm quite pleased with an overall placing of #34.
I'm sure it'd be even better, though, if the math weren't super-duper off. With 4 wins and 4 losses, I'm unclear how I get a 33% win rate. I mean, did they just ignore the last two games or something?
In fact, maybe that's what they did. It explains my Sportsmanship score; if you look at the numbers on ToF and lop off the last two games, you get a 14.
That's STILL problematic, though, because those numbers are wrong.
- I gave my Game 6 opponent a 1. It was an awful "game".
- TOF shows my score as my Game 6 score as a 1. (Possible.)
- TOF shows Game 6 opponent's score as a 2. I sent in a 1, it shows a 2.
- I checked the next morning, thinking they'd maybe been entered wrong. They validated that it'd been entered correctly. So it was just showing wrong.
But the scores shown in the app, which I was told did not match what'd been entered and were therefore incorrect, are clearly what's shown here (assuming only the first 6 games count). Game 6 opponent's sports score reflects what's in the TOF app (1-6), as does mine.
So, either someone looked me in the eye and lied to me (either "I'm checking now." or "This is what it says."), or those scores are super-fucked up.
In a lot of ways, none of this matters: in the 30's, who cares? But really: that was an awful, awful, awful game: the worst I've had in a long, long time... and it's salt in the wound to see something wrong make that okay. _________________ Rush - Warpstone Pile

When I saw my score I thought to myself. Jeeze what did Ashley get? And when I saw it I yelled in the office YOU HAVE TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME! The painting is super fucked up. Last year I got a 30 as well and people were complimenting me on my Tau. This year I got no compliments at all. People would look at my models and go "meh." But you know what? It deserves a 50!
For some reason the NOVA judges really dislike a single color scheme. They really like it when an Army has different colors and [censored]. I mean my score just proves that there is something totally wrong about their judging. I probably should have been given a 30 with my shitty painting. . . .

Yeah overall only is the 6 games. As the last 2 games are just going for bracket win. NOVA has 3 ways to track their tournament. Win path, overall and battlemaster.
Oh and about them fucking your score. Don't feel bad. For the second year in a row now I've told them I dropped and they still paired me for another loss. That's 2 games on my ToF record that I didn't play but still count against my overall ToF ranking. Which might not mean much to most people but I kind of wanted to raise it a bit. But now it'll be that much harder lol. _________________ My Blog |

I would say most tournaments don't want you to drop, hopefully everyone that signs up plans to stay for the whole thing. Makes pairing harder and when you don't show and people have to move around at the last minute is a tad annoying. Fantasy side had a bit of that going on too.
To drop for emergency stuff...obviously ok, just to help your scoring I think is wrong. _________________ Joey

And not be penalized for quitting early. Reading through the packet, it says it's an 8 round tournament, and all it says about quitting on 7-8 is, "Doing so will carry no penalty, so long as you list your intent in the appropriate location of the Round 6 scoresheet. "
I like that it's an option, but those two games should count for something, if only to the people who play them. As it stands, it's really a 6 round tournament with two rounds that only kinda sorta matter, but only in the tightest of contexts and don't impact your overall score at all.
Maybe they should take the 6 highest scores out of the 8; that way, the pussies who quit on Round 7 aren't automatically a whole game's scores behind... but the ballers who power through have the chance to flip a L to a W in terms of overall score. (This might be a terrible idea; it's straight from my ass to my keyboard.)
Boy howdy: I sure put more words around the stuff I don't like than the stuff I do... which is a shame because I had a great time and enjoyed it waaaay more than I think my posting would suggest. I probably need to hurry up and blog about it. _________________ Rush - Warpstone Pile

2012 and 2013 the vast majority of people who weren't "still in the running" dropped for games 7 and 8. I'm assuming it was the same this year. So, yeah, it's a 6 game tournament. Hell, I would say you almost should have to opt in for games 7 and 8.
They got my scores reallllly wrong last year. I've heard from a lot of other people about similar stuff happening.
I am surprised Ashley only got a 30. I don't think it's OMGTHEBESTARMYEVER but a 30 out of 80, or whatever, is low. It's a good looking army, and I've seen the quality of the median army at NOVA decline the last three years.
But, NOVA is in our backyard. I kind of sort of almost but not really regret not playing this year. Will probably play next year since I hope family stuff and whatnot calms down and I have the bandwidth to handle it. _________________ The Hammer Dialectic - Thoughts on Warhammer, Professional Wrestling, and Dialectical Materialism.

The way it was explained to us(fantasy side) they go through and if nothing is eye catching but still painted well you got a 30(my score as well). If you had a big model or really awesome conversion to stand out, they came back and looked closer and this puts you in the 50 range. Awesome highlights/shadows and details on the bases moved you up in the 50-60 area and had to be pretty awesome(none on the fantasy side as least when I talked to him) to get into the 70 range.
Someone(Cant remember who)called em out and they looked closer and agreed to a great paint job but told him to put out and eyecatcher. He had his Thundertusk and they told him to put it out and I am pretty sure they looked closer and bumped up his score. The Thundertusk wasn't even in his list, but was obviously part of his army. Something I am considering for next year. Large model, eye catching and hopefully converted...even though I suck at doing anything eye catching and certainly they will back up after they look closer _________________ Joey
