Anyone else watching this? It's epic so far, I'm only on episode 3 though. I already hate the prince though. Little git.

It's an okay show. I'm pleased with it, but it I'm a big enough of a fan of the books that the disappointments really chafe.

I'll tell you this: it might have 1,000 times more doggy-style sexposition*, but it's not half the show Treme is. Seriously: Treme is probably one of the greatest shows ever made. GoT is simply "pretty good."

* Exposition given while sex is going on in the background because HBO's sure your attention would wander without it.

Let me break it down: there's so much extraneous sex in the show, people complain about it.

It's worth noting that most of it isn't particularly titillating and is very, very clearly there to just keep you interested while someone rattles off several pages of Westerosi lore.

It's fun to see a version of what I had in my head playing out on the screen. Definitely looking forward to next season and the next book.

Never read the books but I've seen every episode so far and its making me really want to check out the books. Some very good twists in it if you don't know what is going to happen. This and true blood coming back has made me get hbo again. Nothing will top the sopranos in my opinion though.

The show is OK. The show does some stupid things and adheres to the book when it should instead improve on it. It's not bad but it's not great, either.

The show either has a tiny budget or Sean Bean's agent was able to get a ton of money for Sean Bean to look confused and sad for nine episodes.

Some of the dialogue is awful. Any scene involving Varys and Littlefinger makes me want to kill myself. Many characters are ill defined or one dimensional, especially all the characters who would be considered heroic.

It's merely OK. I think the show adhered too closely to the books when it shouldn't have and diverged in little ways that really change the tone of the show and make no sense. At this point in the show I'm hoping the Lannisters murder all of the Starks because they're so boring and so up their own ass about honor and bullshit. The books didn't make me feel that way and while some characters were one dimensional (Arya, Catelyn, Sansa, Ned) or zero dimensional (Robb, Hodor, Rickon) I still managed to find them more sympathetic than Cersei and Jaime. The show manages to make them more sympathetic and understandable than the utterly boring and bland Stark family.

I second Richard's Treme recommendation. I know the show portrays largely African American characters and isn't likely to win over an audience that demands swords and dragons in their books but it's amazing.

It's not fair to compare Game of Thrones, or any show other than Treme, to The Wire so I won't do that. Instead, I'll compare it to Carnivale, Deadwood, Rome, Lost, and even Battleship Galaxy and Game of Thrones comes up seriously lacking. Had someone told me three years ago that I would be more excited for a 300-inspired Spartacus show on the Stars network than an HBO produced A Game of Thrones I probably would have called them a liar. I was a lot angrier 3 years ago, though.

I'm pretty easy to please, and I accept that, but game of thrones has made me happy. I believe a lot of the sex stuff in it is over the top and unnecessary, but it sells and I'm not the guy calling the shots.

I actually like Varys and Littlefinger's characterization just fine. Yeah, they do the annoying exposition thing, but really: Littlefinger is so convinced that he's so fucking clever, it only makes sense for him to feel compelled to explain, in detail, his Xanatos gambit (to the sound of two whores fingerbanging each other).

P.S. I really hope every Llannister head ends up on a spike outside of Winterfell. Except maybe the Imp, I kind of like him.

I'm more or less okay with Littlefinger OR Varys. I just really hate the scenes where it's just the two of them talking.

L: "Something intrigue you're a eunuch."
V: "Something intrigue you're friendless."
L: "Something intrigue I pay for sex you have no cock lol."
V: "Something intrigue you have a small cock and my spiders listen something."
L: "Something intrigue realm is important do you have no cock or no balls or both?"
V: "Something intrigue dude I'm not going to say and yeah I like the realm and got spiders or something. No one likes you."

I just really, really disliked it.

Weirdly enough I think Spartacus's sex scenes were maybe more stylish and ridiculous but come off as less gratuitous. So much about Game of Thrones just struck me as trying to come off as ADULT and SERIOUS and I think that's a big thing a lot of nerds have: they are so desperately insecure about the books they read that they need to sell them as SERIOUS and DRAMATIC and ADULT. It just comes off as gratuitous and gross to me.

Still, I could forgive all of that if they ever bothered to give depth or likability to the Starks. For now I'm hoping the Lannisters kill them all because they're boooooooooring.

Just re-read Game of Thrones after having watched the show...

Loved the show. Loved the books the first time I read them and am thoroughly enjoying them the second time around. Martin is coming out with book 5 in the next week or so. Can't wait for that.

The show keeps pretty well with the book, even down to some of the conversations between main characters. Ned and Cersei in the Godwood. Catelyn taking Tyrion prisoner in the pub. Tyrion's confession. Etc.

Sorry Casey, I have to disagree. I liked the banter between Varys and Littlefinger, even if its not from the books. It does add spice to the show and shows the conflict between the two characters that you can't normally pick up on in a short hourly show, unless you've read the books.

The show takes some artistic liberties with the storyline, but nothing blatant, over the top or anything that changes the storyline. I've noticed some minor changes, but haven't thought them to be too bad. Classic movie making corner cutting.

Overall, I really like the series. Can't wait until next spring.

I want to run a drive by on the actor that plays this dude because the character pisses me off so bad.

I LOVE these books. They are probably my favorite. I enjoy them more than Dune. "Dance of Dragons" is to be published soon, and it's one of the things I'm most looking forward to in my summer. This tops going to Barbados and not working while the kids are on vacation.

The book before this one was a little odd. Martin had intended for it to finish the series, but while writing realized he had to much story to conclude in one book. Rather than splitting the rest of the story chronologically, he finished telling the story for half of the characters and left the other half of the characters (the bad ass ones we want to hear about) for"Dance of Dragons". This book will own...

I am really enjoying the show. They do somethings that are not in the book, but those novels are over a thousand pages. These changes are (for the most part) necessary to flesh out a long list of rich characters and move the viewer through a huge story arc. Honestly, it's several stories we are moved through, across several kingdoms. There is no way they could have kept a TV audience interested with out cutting some corners and accelerating the story in places.

As for those who have not read the books, know that this is hardly the beginning of the story. I would consider this part to still be exposition. You are being meeting the people and places. The real fun will be what happens once it gets going full throttle. I hope you guys enjoy it even half as much as I do!

I've been waiting several years to know what the hell happened to the Onion Knight! Martin alludes to his demise in his last book, but never explains what happened. Mad

Spoiler alert:

I'd like to know what happens to Aryia, Syrill Ferril (Aryia's Dance master), Nydira (Aryaia's Dire wolf), The Crow's Eye, and exactly what will Daenary's (Who will ride her dragons?) and Commander John Snow do with the situations before them? What ludicrous stuff will try and make it's way south? Oh, and I don't even know what to begin to think about Bran and his unfolding abilities....

Oh, and what exactly is our homeboy Tyrion planning to do next? What's going to happen with the chick from Dorn? Will anything spin out of that? Martin left us with a long list of burning questions, I was beginning to grow resentful!

*I will speculate on Aryia. She will emerge as a bad ass face dancing, sword master type assassin and visit destruction on the long list that she has been praying over every night....
