I have been toying with the idea of use chess clocks on games. Each player has 1 hour of playing time in a 2 hour game, 6 turns that's 10 minutes a player turn.
therefore the less time you time you use in your 60 minute allotment the more battle points you receive. So if you only got in 3 turns but you only took 30 minutes to take those three turns you will receive bonus points and a victory.
What is nice about this is you can hit the chess clock when slow player boy has to roll saves in your turn, taking from his time. This way when he slow plays . "oh let me see, you did how many wounds, to wait, what is my save?, ok do I do a look out sir now?" it is against his time. _________________ I lose cause I can |

Better yet, don't allow dicks at CGL tournaments.

I'm a fan of Kings of War because it was built with that concept in mind. Takes it a step further and during your turn you're the only one to roll dice. Even things like Morale tests are offensive in nature. Works out well. _________________ The Hammer Dialectic - Thoughts on Warhammer, Professional Wrestling, and Dialectical Materialism.

While I really really like this type of idea, the issue is deeper than just a clock.
That Tau player Phil played against would take 20 minutes to do his Intercepter shots and then another 15 for Overwatch shooting.
He would then sit around and roll dice for 10 minutes to do a few attacks from his Riptides and such in CC.
All that was happening on Phil's turn unfortunately, so keeping tabs per player turn wouldnt work and to stop time and then have someone else start time would become a time sync in and of itself.
The good news is that there was maybe two people there who "seemed" to be like this, just so happens Phil and I played against them. I beat my opponent by just speeding up my turns (I have next to no shooting) and basically just took 6 minute turns while he took 20/30 minute turns. |

I think it works if you hit your time when it's there turn to roll armor saves or whatever.
I think it's a little disruptive to the game, but probably less so than what happened to you.
For what it's worth, I think any stalling or whatnot should just get you kicked out for good. Or call games that don't go at least 5 full turns an automatic draw.
I've had a few games where we'll be an hour in and just starting turn 2 or whatever, and I'll make it very clear that we are going to play a full game and they need to move their ass. That usually works, although I've gotten some push back and when I do I just tend to ride those people and make them miserable. I'm also 100% okay with not being every person's best friend, and a game shouldn't require you to turn on an asshole personality for it to work. _________________ The Hammer Dialectic - Thoughts on Warhammer, Professional Wrestling, and Dialectical Materialism.

Yeah, I was up his ass everyturn when he was slowing down and he would speed up a bit.
I really didnt care as much cause I was winning pretty handily and it did not effect the outcome of the game (unlike Phil's situation).
Chess clock would be cool, and should work.
I think if I had to play the guy he played (notorious for slow playing), I would have the judge camp out table to monitor time. They were actively rooting against him the entire time because they know the issues he causes. |

I think that was my problem. I felt I already was being a huge dick (the melee that took over 30 minutes because judges had to get involved) me pointing out the fact that interceptor isn't done during the shooting phase so you only get one shot, same thing with overwatch. I was calling him on rules left and right that he didn't agree with. So I felt I was already being a huge dick and to just say you need to speed the [censored] up I would have felt terrible. Though I feel pretty shitty now because I only got 3 turns, so I probably should have been a bigger dick. _________________ My Blog |

I rode my guy like a 10$ hooker dude. I was REALLY up in his [censored].
Though it was more because I felt like he was actively cheating me with the "moving my guys back" after my first movement phase and certain items not being on his army list.
So it rubbed me the wrong way and after that I just rode him hard and made it pretty uncomfortable for him most of the time |
