Guys,
I really want to try to minimize the non-shows for this event, and I've got a plan that may or may not sit well with everyone. Please let me know your thoughts.

I'd like to have reservations done well ahead of time and require a $15 fee. That fee would be refundable only if a player actually brings a toy to the event. For cancellations early enought to get someone else filling that spot, I would refund the money as well. In other words, non-refundable for no-shows unless someone fills your slot.

I would waive the requirement to actually pre-pay for IFL or CGL members, but I would still hold everyone to the same standard and expect to collect all funds in time.

Too harsh? I don't want to go this route if it has a potential to depress attendance, but I also don't want to end up with a half-filled event.

Personally, its a charity event and I don't see a problem with a "deposit" equal to the minimum value of the toy required. It is a game that we all enjoy with the bonus of it being a charity event, so I don't see why people don't come out to participate. But life happens as we all know, so I don't think that losing $15 is a big deal when it goes to a good cause. I do believe that the days of having 16+ players at an event are behind us whether its due to other activities, boredom with the game, or general dislike for the system. Those that plan events just need to plan for smaller turnouts and we'll just plan on having fun regardless. A bird in hand as they say...its one more toy for the kids.

Ben, I think my 10th grade English teacher would suggest that your paragraph could use a concluding statement. Was that support for the pre-reg fee, or a suggestion that I not worry about it because we're not likely to get 16 players anyway?

I would be supportive of a non-refundable deposit.

If you like the idea of purchasable re-roll tokens, you might consider using the deposit as the players' first re-roll.
